What are the essential items for a basic 2-week emergency preparedness kit?

Focus on the Big Five: Water (at least 14 gallons per person or a robust filtration setup), Food (shelf-stable items your family actually eats plus a way to prepare them), Power (a portable power station and foldable solar panel), Air (high-efficiency purifiers or N95 masks for wildfire smoke), and First Aid & Medical (including a 14-day supply of prescription medications). How do I prepare for my pets during a power outage or evacuation?

If you have a 2-week supply of food and water for your family, keep the same for your pets. Build a pet go-bag with copies of vaccination records and a photo of you with your pet, a familiar toy or blanket, a 14-day supply of any medication, portable bowls, a sturdy leash, and a carrier. If you must evacuate, your pet leaves with you.
